Patrick develops research on radiological disinformation signatures.
Patrick Ertelt is a Visiting Fellow at Open Nuclear Network (ONN), a programme of PAX sapiens, where he develops research on radiological disinformation signatures through open-source information. His work examines how claims about radiological threats emerge and spread and how they can be verified and pre-bunked.
Prior to joining ONN, he served as a research assistant at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) in Monterey, California. He worked with the UN Department of Peace Operations in New York, the Division for Chemical and Biological Weapons Disarmament at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs in Vienna. He received his BA in International Relations from the University of Erfurt, his MA in International Relations from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, and currently completes his MA in Nonproliferation & Terrorism Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS). He interns as a research assistant at the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) and is an independent consultant on CBRN threat assessments.
Patrick is fluent in English, German, and Russian. He is a former competitive pianist and a passionate fisherman.
