Benjamin Ashraf is an Assistant Analyst and Coordinator, Monitoring and Assessment at Open Nuclear Network (ONN), a PAX sapiens Programme, where he is a member of the Monitoring and Assessment team. His core areas of focus are the Middle East (Iran-Israel) and the Indian Subcontinent (India-Pakistan).
Before joining ONN, Benjamin worked as an editor at the pan-Arab news outlet The New Arab. Prior to that, he was a researcher at the University of Jordan's Center for Strategic Studies, where he led projects implementing UNSCR 1325 for UN Women, alongside work with GIZ, UNDP and other international organisations. He also helped organise the King of Norway's first visit to the Middle East.
Benjamin holds a BA in Theology from the University of Durham and an MSc in International Public Policy from University College London. His analysis has been cited in UN reports and by Harvard's Belfer Center, and his writing has appeared in Al Jazeera, The New Arab, Mondoweiss and other international outlets. He has appeared as a commentator on TRT World, AL24 and more. He speaks English, Arabic and promises to learn German by the end of the year.
In his spare time, Benjamin likes to pretend he's an alchemist in the kitchen by cooking with lots of spices and listening to music unnecessarily loud on big sound systems.
