Report Launch Webinar: Hidden Nuclear Risks? Understanding Nuclear Safety and Environmental Risks in North Korea

Join us for the launch of the new ONN's Report "Nuclear Safety Under Strain: Ageing Infrastructure, Governance and Environmental Risk in North Korea", with support from the Korea Foundation.

Analysis of the DPRK’s nuclear programme has traditionally centred on proliferation and security risks. Yet, nuclear safety concerns such as ageing infrastructure and radioactive waste management, alongside environmental impacts raise a different and often overlooked set of questions.

With support from the Korea Foundation, ONN conducted a year-long research project examining the nuclear safety and environmental risks associated with the DPRK’s nuclear programme. The project drew on open-source research, satellite imagery analysis, archival research, expert interviews and an international expert workshop.

Join us for a webinar marking the launch of ONN’s new report, Nuclear Safety Under Strain: Ageing Infrastructure, Governance and Environmental Risk in North Korea. The speakers will present the report’s key findings, explain what the available evidence can and cannot tell us, and discuss practical approaches to evaluating and mitigating the identified risks.
