Kseniia Pirnavskaia shares ONN’s approach to nuclear risk reduction at EST Academy

Kseniia Pirnavskaia, ONN’s Network and Engagement Specialist, delivered a lecture on “The role of civil society organisations in nuclear risk reduction” at the EST Academy 2026. Organised by the European Student Think Tank, a youth-led, non-partisan policy research organisation, the Academy prepares students and young professionals to engage in policymaking and communicate complex policy challenges to wider audiences.

Within its Security and Defence track, Pirnavskaia shared ONN’s nuclear risk reduction theory of change: turning open-source research, expert analysis and forecasting into actionable insights and targeted engagement that help decision-makers address emerging nuclear risks. Drawing on Project Loop, she illustrated how civil society can connect expertise with policy action. The lecture equipped participants with practical examples of impact in nuclear risk reduction to inform their own public presentations at a later stage of the Academy organised in Vienna and demonstrate how civil society can contribute to policy action.
