On 25 October, ONN Senior Analyst Sarah Laderman, Research Coordinator Elin Bergner and Research Coordinator Nikita Degtyarev presented “Cracking Nuclear Secrets: Open Source Nuclear Analysis and How to Use It In Reporting” at a session hosted by the Stanley Center for Peace and Security’s Developing Story Project and the Atomic Reporters during the 2025 International Press Institute World Congress and Media Innovation Festival.
Over the 90-minute session, ONN briefed journalists on topics related to nuclear weapons and engaged them in three interactive case studies designed to enhance reporting of open-source analysis. This session provided journalists not only knowledge of the nuclear OSINT landscape, but taught them valuable tools to conduct their own analyses and to be critical of sensationalist claims related to nuclear weapons.
