From 9–11 May 2025, representatives from Open Nuclear Network (ONN), a programme of PAX sapiens, participated in the Effective Altruism Global (EAGx) Conference in Prague, where they led a forward-looking workshop exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and nuclear risk.
ONN’s forecasting session, "Foresight at the Edge: Forecasting AI and Nuclear Risk", was facilitated by Karim Kamel, Foresight and Prediction Specialist, and Kseniia Pirnavskaia, Engagement and Network Coordinator. Drawing around 50 participants from diverse fields—including tech, AI, policy, and academia—the session engaged attendees in structured forecasting exercises and sentiment gathering on how AI may reshape nuclear policy, strategy and risk landscapes. The discussion explored not only emerging risks, but also potential opportunities for improving decision-making, transparency and early warning systems in the nuclear domain.
In addition to the conference, ONN team members conducted related engagements with local research institutions and the EA community in Prague, further expanding the conversation on how AI can be applied in nuclear risk reduction.
