ONN Research Assistant Rainbow(Yudian) Tao honoured to have completed the 2025 Armament and Disarmament Summer School, co-hosted by SIPRI, the Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament and in cooperation with the Odesa Center for Nonproliferation. She spent an intensive and enriching week in Stockholm, diving deep into the pressing challenges and research across the fields of arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament. She is grateful to have been part of this year’s incredible cohort of young professionals.
Three key takeaways from Rainbow:
- Gender lens on disarmament and non‑proliferation: Learning from experts added depth to how she incorporates gender perspectives into her everyday work.
- Behind the data: Understanding the methodology behind datasets produced by SIPRI and AMC enriched her appreciation for the rigor underlying those figures.
- Peace Walk in Uppsala city: Guided by Professor Peter Wallensteen, this reflective experience underscored the preciousness of peace in today’s world.
Kudos to the organising institutions and all the speakers and participants for making this such a valuable experience. Bringing together young professionals from diverse backgrounds to engage, reflect and collaborate on global security is more important than ever.
