Valeriia Hesse, Research Analyst at Open Nuclear Network (ONN), contributed her expertise at the XV OdCNP Summer School with a lecture on “Understanding and countering radiological and nuclear disinformation: the case of Ukraine.” Her session shed light on how disinformation in the nuclear domain undermines trust, fuels insecurity, and complicates conflict resolution.
In addition to the lecture, Valeriia led a United Nations General Assembly simulation, where students engaged in debates and negotiations on a draft resolution to counter radiological and nuclear disinformation. This hands-on exercise offered participants the chance to experience the complexity of multilateral diplomacy, the realities of international negotiations, and the challenges of building consensus on critical security issues.
This engagement underscores ONN’s commitment to equipping the next generation of experts with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, analyze, and counter hybrid threats. By strengthening awareness and resilience, initiatives like these contribute to global security, informed policymaking, and effective responses to disinformation in the nuclear field.
