Olamide Samuel for BBC News Arabic on Middle East

Olamide Samuel spoke to BBC News Arabic about the presence of 18 trucks at Iran’s Fordow facility ahead of the US strike.

On 12 July, satellite imagery captured 18 trucks at Iran’s Fordow uranium enrichment facility, shortly before a reported US strike in the region. The timing and activity have prompted questions about Iran’s intentions and the state of its nuclear programme. Speaking with BBC News Arabic, Olamide Samuel, ONN Network & Engagement Specialist, outlined two plausible interpretations of the imagery:

  1. Tunnel Reinforcement – The trucks may have been used to seal entrances with earth or gravel, potentially to protect underground infrastructure.
  2. Material Relocation – Another possibility is that they were involved in the movement of 60%-enriched uranium or sensitive equipment.

Samuel noted that while both scenarios are technically possible, the logistical and security risks associated with relocating highly enriched uranium under potential threat of airstrike may indicate a defensive move to reinforce the site rather than an extraction of material.
