Karim Kamel and Elin Bergner for PRCP: "Nuclear Risk Reduction: A Feminist Foreign Policy Perspective"

Can feminist foreign policy reshape how we reduce nuclear risks? A new article explores how justice-driven, inclusive approaches can strengthen traditional arms control and pave the way toward disarmament.

How do feminist approaches work with nuclear risk reduction? That’s the question explored in: "Nuclear Risk Reduction: A Feminist Foreign Policy Perspective" by Alice Nováková, ONN’s Karim Kamel and Elin Bergner, published with the Peace Research Center Prague

Nuclear risk reduction and Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP) might, at first glance, seem fundamentally at odds. The former works within traditional security structures to prevent nuclear use through technical and diplomatic measures. The latter reimagines security through justice, inclusivity, and humancentred approaches. But they’re not incompatible - in fact, they’re complementary.

This article argues that FFP can enrich current nuclear risk reduction efforts by promoting cooperative, communication-based approaches over coercion and deterrence. Merging these frameworks offers a path toward more resilient, inclusive, and human-centered risk reduction - ultimately advancing the goal of nuclear disarmament.
