Dr Tatsujiro Suzuki named ONN Advisory Council Member Emeritus

Open Nuclear Network proudly recognises Dr Tatsujiro Suzuki as Advisory Council Member Emeritus, honouring his profound impact on our mission and lasting commitment to a safer world.

Open Nuclear Network extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr Tatsujiro Suzuki, who has concluded his tenure as a member of the ONN Advisory Council and is now recognised as an Advisory Council Member Emeritus.

Dr Suzuki has brought extraordinary insight and dedication to ONN throughout his time on the Council. As Vice Director and Professor at the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition (RECNA), Nagasaki University, his expertise in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation has been invaluable in guiding ONN’s mission and activities.

Reflecting on Dr Suzuki’s legacy, ONN Director Andreas Persbo remarked:

“Dr. Suzuki’s contribution to ONN’s formative years cannot be overstated. His deep knowledge of Northeast Asian nuclear strategy and politics has significantly enriched our work, as has his consistent advocacy for a holistic approach to nuclear risk—one that incorporates technical, social, and ethical considerations in our collective effort to eliminate this threat by the year 2100.

In many ways, Dr. Suzuki exemplifies the best of our field. He serves as a council member of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, co-chairs the International Panel on Fissile Materials, and sits on the Advisory Board of the Asia Pacific Leadership Network. A committed multilateralist, he firmly believes the nuclear challenge can only be addressed through joint efforts by governmental and non-governmental actors. He has also been a steadfast supporter of the next generation of arms control professionals striving to carry this mission forward.

I wish him every success in his future endeavors.”

Ambassador Kent Härstedt, Chair of the Advisory Council, also expressed his appreciation:

“It has been an honour to work alongside Dr Suzuki on the Advisory Council. His contributions have consistently reflected deep thought, strategic clarity and a firm ethical compass. He brought not only academic rigour but also a collaborative spirit that strengthened the Council’s work and ONN’s broader mission.”

As Dr Suzuki steps away from his formal role on the Advisory Council, Dr Suzuki continues to support the work of ONN and remains committed to the broader goal of reducing nuclear risk.

We are deeply grateful for Dr Suzuki’s years of service and honoured to recognise him as an Advisory Council Member Emeritus. His thoughtful contributions and dedication to peace and security will always remain part of ONN’s foundation.
