Andreas Persbo interviewed for Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' 2024 Annual Report

Nuclear risk is rising, yet support for addressing it is falling. ONN Director Andreas Persbo calls for renewed investment to meet this challenge in the Bulletin’s 2024 Annual Report.

We’re proud to share that ONN Director Andreas Persbo was featured in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ 2024 Annual Report, highlighting a commitment to amplifying the voices of emerging experts and strengthening the global community working to reduce existential risks. In the piece, Andreas shares an important reflection on the need for renewed support in the nuclear field:

"At PAX sapiens and Open Nuclear Network, I work to inspire the involvement of individuals and foundations to reinvest in the nuclear space and encourage the participation of other funders that traditionally have not been looking at nuclear issues. I am concerned about declining funding in the nuclear space. In the context of nuclear risks, there is increasing salience of nuclear weapons. While this is happening, nuclear risk is being defunded and deprioritized. We need to look at the combination of increasing risks and decreasing capacity to deal with the risks and come to the conclusion that we need to do something about it. What I would say to other funders and donors is, 'Join us in this.' This is too important. The problem is too big. Even the smallest person can make a difference."
