Open Nuclear Network's Advisory Council Chair, Kent Härstedt, recently participated in the prestigious diplomatic workshop titled "Revitalising the Vienna Spirit: Forging Common Ground on the Nuclear Agenda." The event was held at the picturesque Krems, Austria, bringing together leading global experts and senior diplomats.
The annual workshop, organised by the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), tackled pressing international security issues. Discussions focused on the geopolitical challenges impacting the international non-proliferation regime, critical resource constraints confronting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the implications of recent developments related to Iran's nuclear facilities.
Participants underlined the urgent need for renewed commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), particularly in preparation for the upcoming 2026 NPT Review Conference. They deliberated on the opportunities and risks presented by emerging technologies and emphasised addressing obstacles to peaceful nuclear development, especially financing and infrastructure capacity.
ONN extends its appreciation to the VCDNP for facilitating this critical dialogue.
